Morning 7:30AM early start): Phnom Penh to Siem Reap (Road Adventure, Ancient Temples & Tonlé Sap Village Life)
Start your journey from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, traveling toward Siem Reap along a more scenic route instead of taking the direct highway. Along the way, stop at Skun market for photos and local atmosphere, then continue to the temple region.
Visit Temple & heritage stops:
Sambor Prei Kuk: Discover the ancient Khmer-era temple ruins, important for understanding early Angkor civilization and the rise of regional Khmer power.
Kampong Kdei ancient bridge: Pass this historic bridge area, known for its classical Khmer infrastructure and the way it connects routes across waterways.
Kampong Kleang floating fishing community: Arrive at the Tonlé Sap floating villages, where daily life is closely shaped by the lake’s seasonal water levels.
Afternoon & evening and overnight
Check in for an overnight homestay in Kampong Kleang. Sleep in a traditional stilted/floating home and experience local culture firsthand. Visit Beng Mealea Temple, a remote jungle-covered Khmer temple often described as a “wild” version of the Angkor style. This site is connected to the Khmer kingdom’s temple-building tradition and gives visitors a strong sense of how temples once sat at the heart of religious life.
Afternoon (Proof time: exploration in the national park):
Travel to Phnom Kulén National Park (about 75 km northeast of Siem Reap). This sacred mountain is famous for the Valley of a 1,000 Lingas, where ancient stone carvings were preserved in and around the riverbed—an important reminder of the region’s spiritual history.
