Itinerary

Phnom Penh to Koh Ker via Kampong Thom (Jungles & Pre-Angkorian Temples) Start early from Phnom Penh We depart at 7:00 AM and travel north toward the Cambodian countryside, passing local villages and farmland along the way.

Stop 1: Skun Spider Market (street food experience)
Try authentic local snacks such as fried spiders, crickets, and other insects. This is a famous local food tradition and a great way to taste regional culture up close.

Sambor Prei Kuk is a pre-Angkorian Khmer temple site, built long before Angkor became the empire’s main center. These temples were created during the early period of Khmer civilization and reflect the transition of early Khmer architecture and spirituality.
You will explore the ruins at a relaxed pace—often quiet and peaceful, surrounded by trees and forest trails.

Lunch / Break Time (optional, depending on schedule)

After the forest temples, we continue toward a remote jungle temple area, often called a “lost city” feeling destination. Because it’s less visited, the atmosphere is truly wild and mysterious.

Koh Ker Group & Main Temples (Pyramid & Stone Details)
You will visit Koh Ker, one of the most dramatic Khmer temple sites in the region. Koh Ker is historically linked to the Khmer Empire’s powerful period when the kingdom’s influence expanded.
Here, you will explore temples such as:

Prasat Pram
Linga Temple
The pyramid-like temple (main temple area) with its unique multi-step design, giving Koh Ker a distinct look compared with other Angkor temples.

Overnight
Stay at a hotel or guesthouse near Koh Ker (Srayeang Village) for a more authentic countryside experience.

Phnom Kulen + Beng Mealea + Fishing Communities (Nature, Sacred Mountain & Jungle Ruins)
Morning — 8:00 AM: Phnom Kulen Waterfall (Holy Mountain)

After breakfast, depart at 8:00 AM for Phnom Kulen. This sacred mountain is closely connected to early Khmer traditions and is known in history for religious significance.
You will drive up into the mountains and reach the holy waterfall, where you can relax, take photos, and—if you like—enjoy a swim in the pools.

Up to 12:00 PM: time at the waterfall and mountain nature.

Midday to Afternoon — Rainforest & Temple Exploration East of Siem Reap

Next, we explore the rainforest surroundings and nearby vegetation-filled temple areas east of Siem Reap—a greener, quieter side of Cambodian history compared to the busy temple circuits.

Midday to Afternoon — Rainforest & Temple Exploration East of Siem Reap

Next, we explore the rainforest surroundings and nearby vegetation-filled temple areas east of Siem Reap—a greener, quieter side of Cambodian history compared to the busy temple circuits.
14:30–16:30 — Beng Mealea (Jungle-Angkor Ruins)

At around 14:30, we visit Beng Mealea. Beng Mealea is an Angkor-era temple complex that has been heavily reclaimed by nature. Massive trees grow through collapsed stones, and the ruins feel like you are walking inside a “real jungle story.”

You will enjoy:

exploring paths among the stones
seeing the temple structure swallowed by vegetation
taking the kind of photos you rarely get at more restored sites

Afternoon 16:30 — Fishing Village & Tonlé Sap Life

At 4:30 PM, we head to the Kampong Khleang area to experience local life near the Tonlé Sap Lake.

Season choice (important):

January to July: you can often drive closer to the community by car and then visit areas on land
August to December: the water level rises, and we usually explore by boat to reach the village and community areas along the shoreline and water houses

This is one of the best chances to understand how Cambodian families live—fishing, working, and building communities in and around the lake.
Overnight

Stay near Siem Reap (or we return for drop-off based on your preferred pace).
