Itinerary

Day 1: Phnom Penh to Koh Ker (via Kampong Thom) — Jungles & Pre-Angkor Temples
Morning (Depart 7:00 AM)
Travel north toward Kampong Thom through rural villages and quiet roads—real countryside Cambodia on the way.

Stop 1: Skun Spider Market (Street Food)
Try adventurous local snacks like fried spiders and crickets. A fun cultural introduction before Khmer history.

Stop 2: Sambor Prei Kuk (Pre-Angkorian Temples)
Explore peaceful Chenla-era brick temples in a forest setting, with early Khmer Hindu (Shiva-related) influences.
Lunch/Break (Flexible)

Afternoon: Remote Jungle Temples & Koh Ker (Lost City Feeling)
Continue to wild, less-visited jungle ruins, then reach Koh Ker, linked to the Khmer Empire’s rise during King Jayavarman IV. Expect dramatic pyramid-like temples and distinctive stepped design.

Highlights (time permitting): Prasat Pram (tree temple), Linga Temple, Koh Ker pyramid temple.
Overnight
Stay near Koh Ker (Srayeang Village area) for a quieter, local start next day.

Morning 8:00 AM after breakfast: Phnom Kulen Waterfall
Drive to Phnom Kulen, the “Mountain of the Holy Spirit,” connected to King Jayavarman II and the Khmer origin story. Around 12:00 PM, enjoy the waterfall area, relax, and explore spiritual spots like the River of Thousand Lingaand Reclining Buddha.
After Lunch: Forest Temples East of Siem Reap
Head into lush, quieter forest routes for views far from typical tourist paths.

14:30 PM: Beng Mealea
Visit Beng Mealea—an Angkor-era temple reclaimed by jungle. It feels raw and “unfinished,” with massive trees growing through ruins and a more adventurous walk.

Transfer to Siem Reap
After Beng Mealea, return to your hotel in Siem Reap to rest after two days of hidden Khmer history and sacred nature.
